A stable subgrade is the starting point for a durable, water-resistant project. The ROMFIX foundation system provides a solid base for roads, tiled surfaces, patios and infrastructure on both soft and load-bearing ground.
Contact usThe ROMFIX system was developed in collaboration with leading engineering consultancies and has been extensively tested and monitored over the years. These detailed analyses have established it as a proven, validated foundation solution. The system can be used on both load-bearing and non-load-bearing subgrades.
The ROMFIX system can be filled with different granular materials, depending on the ground conditions and maximum permissible weight. Projects requiring maximum load-bearing capacity often use high-density materials such as aggregate, including crushed concrete. Where a lighter foundation is needed, a low-density material such as pumice or foam glass provides the right solution.

In some cases, the subgrade is so soft that the foundation moves laterally, causing the surfacing to crack, particularly at the edges. This is a common problem with embankments and polder roads. The ROMFIX system helps reduce these hazardous situations.

Non-woven geotextile that separates the subgrade from the construction layers.
33D geocells that divide the foundation into interconnected cells, providing stability and load-bearing capacity.
Our infographics show at a glance how the different layers work together to create durable, stable paving. Each layer contributes to improved service life, drainage and load-bearing capacity.
Important: these components form a single system and are not alternatives to one another. The right choice depends on the subgrade, aggregate, traffic loading and traffic volume.
Amsterdam’s historic Spaarndammerdijk was built in the 13th century to protect the hinterland from the Zuiderzee and the IJ. It urgently needed a new foundation and bedding layer. Heavy traffic had caused substantial settlement, and the worn-out foundation needed replacement.

The landscape consists mainly of peat (Land subsidence in the peat landscape | Laag Holland) whose humus-rich material must be kept under water as much as possible to prevent exposure to oxygen in the air.
Read more >Choosing the ROMFIX system significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. The carefully designed combination of foundation reinforcement methods allows a thinner foundation layer without compromising stability or load-bearing capacity. This reduction in layer thickness means fewer transport movements and less material consumption.
Limited excavation, less ground disturbance and reduced peat oxidation also lower emissions across the project. To find out what is possible for your situation, contact our experts.
For ordering and delivery of the ROMFIX system, we recommend contacting us well in advance. We can then help you explore the options, calculate the required quantities and determine the most efficient approach for your project. By being involved from the outset, we can coordinate delivery with your programme and site conditions. This helps you avoid delays and ensures the right materials arrive at the right time and in the right quantities.
