Product information
AquaDrain HU-EK is a heavy-duty, capillary-passive surface drainage system for coverings laid on drainage bedding mortar. The system was developed specifically for fixed installation on unbound substrates. Unlike standard studded membranes, AquaDrain HU-EK is perforated underneath, allowing seepage to drain effectively even on uneven surfaces.
The drainage membrane is 16 mm high and provides reliable drainage beneath the covering. Its open structure and special design prevent accumulated moisture from being forced back into the construction. This helps keep the build-up drier and more stable. According to Gutjahr, the woven mesh with protection against limescale build-up also ensures rapid drainage.
AquaDrain HU-EK is suitable for outdoor surfaces subject to pedestrian and vehicle traffic in private and public settings, such as terraces, balconies and surfaces carrying vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes in private applications. The system can be used on unbound substrates, substrates in contact with the ground and substrates with slow water permeability, as well as bound substrates such as concrete with or without waterproofing.
Application instructions
- Use as heavy-duty surface drainage for coverings laid on drainage bedding mortar.
- Suitable for fixed installation on unbound substrates.
- Minimum substrate fall of 1.0% to 2.5%.
- The drainage membrane is 16 mm high.
- Suitable for vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes in private applications.
- Maximum static load of up to 350 kN/m² at 20% deformation.
- Service load of up to 50 kN/m² at 3% deformation.
- Impact sound reduction of up to 26 dB.
- Made of PP.
Step-by-step guide
- Provide a suitable substrate in accordance with the specified system build-up.
- Install a sub-base or load-bearing layer where required.
- Lay AquaDrain HU-EK on the prepared substrate.
- Apply the drainage bedding mortar on top in accordance with the system build-up.
- Continue the build-up with a suitable bonding or contact layer.
- Then install the final covering.
- Finish the edges and drainage using the appropriate system components, such as drainage grilles or angle profiles.
