AquaDrain HB is a heavy-duty floor drainage system for surfaces subject to vehicle traffic. The system was developed for driveways laid with paving bricks or cast concrete slabs and provides reliable, durable drainage of the structure. Combined with drainage bedding mortar, it creates a robust drainage system that removes water effectively and helps prevent damage within the build-up.
According to Gutjahr, AquaDrain HB helps prevent frost damage and efflorescence in paved surfaces thanks to its high drainage capacity. The system also protects against water vapour pressure by effectively ventilating the structure. This makes it suitable for applications requiring a heavy-duty, well-drained build-up.
AquaDrain HB is intended for heavily loaded outdoor surfaces and is designed to receive drainage bedding mortar or concrete where a surface subject to vehicle traffic is required. Gutjahr states that its drainage capacity is up to 30 times greater than that of gravel and crushed stone alone.

Step-by-step guide
- Provide a suitable, correctly constructed substrate.
- Apply the waterproofing in accordance with the specified system build-up.
- Where required, install a separation layer in accordance with the specified build-up.
- Lay AquaDrain HB in the correct position within the structure.
- Continue the system build-up using concrete or drainage bedding mortar, depending on the application.
- Then install the final floor or finishing layer.
- Finish the edges and drainage using the corresponding system components.
