Product information
ARDEX A 38 is a 4-hour screed binder for producing cement screeds that are quickly ready for use and for receiving floor coverings. It is suitable for bonded screeds, screeds on a separation layer and screeds on an insulation layer. It can also be used with underfloor heating.
Thanks to its dimensionally controlled binder system, ARDEX A 38 hardens virtually without shrinkage or stresses. The product is classified in shrinkage class SW1 and was developed for projects where speed and dimensional stability are important. The mortar is quickly ready for foot traffic and floor coverings, significantly reducing waiting times on site.
ARDEX A 38 is suitable as a base for tiles, natural stone and concrete slabs, resilient and textile floor coverings, parquet and coatings. Tiles can be laid after approximately 4 hours at a mixing ratio of 1:4 to 1:5. At these mixing ratios, resilient and textile floor coverings and parquet can be installed after approximately 2 days.
Application instructions
- Apply at air, material and substrate temperatures between 5°C and 25°C.
- Working time approximately 60 minutes at 20°C.
- Ready for foot traffic after approximately 2 to 3 hours.
- Minimum thickness for bonded screeds: 25 mm.
- Approximate consumption per cm of layer thickness: 4.0 kg at 1:4, 3.3 kg at 1:5 and 2.9 kg at 1:6.
- Tiles can be laid after approximately 4 hours at a mixing ratio of 1:4 to 1:5, and after approximately 8 hours at 1:6.
- Resilient and textile floor coverings and parquet can be installed after approximately 2 days at 1:4 to 1:5, and after approximately 4 days at 1:6.
Step-by-step guide
- Check that the substrate is dry, firm, load-bearing and free from separating layers.
- Where necessary, fill cracks with ARDEX FB casting resin or ARDEX PU 5 rapid repair resin.
- Mechanically roughen smooth mineral substrates by milling or shot blasting.
- For bonded screeds, use ARDEX A 18 as a bonding slurry and apply the screed mortar into the freshly applied bonding slurry.
- Mix ARDEX A 38 with the appropriate quantities of screeding sand and water for the required mixing ratio. Guideline ratios are 1:4, 1:5 or 1:6.
- Apply the mortar, compact thoroughly and finish the floor level.
- Protect the fresh screed against draughts, water, strong sunlight and intense heat during application and setting.
