Weeds are a major challenge in public spaces. They spoil the streetscape, prompt complaints from local residents and can create traffic safety hazards. They are particularly persistent in hard-to-reach areas around cycle racks, benches and litter bins, where mechanical sweepers cannot reach.

From municipalities and provinces to water authorities and Rijkswaterstaat, organisations throughout the Netherlands use our substructure systems, drainage bedding mortars and jointing mortars to create durable, stable and weed-free streets, squares and traffic islands. Our solutions are included in specification documents, proven in practice and successfully used in numerous public projects.
Traditional weed control methods such as brushing, flame weeding and steaming are labour-intensive and need to be repeated several times a year. Chemicals such as glyphosate are no longer desirable because of their environmental impact. ROMFIX jointing mortars make these methods a thing of the past, providing a low-maintenance, environmentally friendly solution to weeds.
Planning a larger project? We are happy to help from the design stage. Small choices in the design details can substantially reduce maintenance, particularly where weed management has traditionally been difficult.
ROMFIX advises municipalities, engineering consultancies and contractors on the best foundation and jointing systems for durable, future-ready public spaces. To find out how ROMFIX can help your municipality or project, contact us for a no-obligation consultation.
