Product information
ARDEX A 18 is a bonding slurry for laying bonded screeds and carrying out repairs with cement mortars. It provides a reliable bond between substrate and mortar and can be used indoors and outdoors. Its high bond strength and long open time make it easy to apply to various mineral substrates.
ARDEX A 18 is used as a bonding slurry beneath screeds made with ARDEX A 35, ARDEX A 35 MIX, ARDEX A 38, ARDEX A 38 MIX, ARDEX A 58, ARDEX A 60 and other cement mortars. It can be applied to concrete, cement screeds and other suitable substrates such as existing terrazzo, tiles and concrete paving.
The bonding slurry consists of a grey powder with aggregates and special additives. It is mixed with water to form a spreadable paste. Apply the screed mortar wet on wet while the bonding slurry is still damp.
Application instructions
- Mixing ratio: approximately 5.75 litres of water per 25 kg of powder.
- Working time: approximately 60 minutes.
- Open time: approximately 30 minutes at +20°C.
- Minimum layer thickness: approximately 1.5 mm.
- Apply at temperatures above +5°C.
- Do not add more water to bonding slurry that has begun to set.
- Suitable for underfloor heating.
Step-by-step guide
- Ensure the substrate is sufficiently firm, load-bearing and rough, and free from dust, dirt, paint, plaster residues and other separating layers.
- Mill or shot-blast the surface beforehand if necessary.
- Professionally seal non-moving cracks beforehand.
- Dampen the substrate if necessary, but avoid standing water.
- Mix 25 kg of ARDEX A 18 with approximately 5.75 litres of clean water to form a smooth, spreadable paste.
- Apply the bonding slurry generously in a layer at least 1.5 mm thick using a broom, roller,
- notched trowel or special brush.
- Apply the screed mortar wet-on-wet onto the still-damp bonding slurry.
