Very soft ground poses a challenge for every garden owner in Dordrecht. The aim is clear: a garden that is as stable as possible, without continual settlement.

Lightweight foam glass

For this particular project, our build-up was filled with extremely lightweight foam glass. This material weighs 250–300 kg/m³ and provides a compressive strength of over 500 kPa within the cell (stronger than a crushed aggregate or sand base). The lightweight build-up offsets the weight of the paving layer, resulting in little or no settlement of the subgrade. Our ROMFIX system is the ideal solution for soft ground such as that found in Dordrecht.

Finishing

Finally, the paving, consisting of clay pavers and natural stone, was laid on a layer of ROMFIX drainage bedding mortar and jointed with ROMFIX Pro two-component jointing mortar.
