The ROMFIX system in the heart of the Groene Hart

In collaboration with GMB and Vitens we installed a ROMFIX system.

A stable road on soft peat ground

The Groene Hart is known for its peatlands and clay soils. These soft ground conditions often make road construction challenging. Using the ROMFIX system provides a stable, durable foundation for the long term.

Vitens asked us to help develop a foundation solution for the challenging ground conditions in Benschop. Engineering work carried out in advance allowed us to tailor the ROMFIX system precisely to the ground conditions.

The road also served temporarily as a construction access road for transporting materials. This avoided the need for additional access mats and limited damage to the peat ground.

For the Benschop project, we supplied the engineering and materials, and our installation teams built the entire road, providing a complete service for GMB.

Using lightweight fill means the road places hardly any additional load on the subgrade. The structure effectively floats on the peat. The road exerts no pressure on the ground beneath it, limiting the drying of the peat.

A foundation layer solution

The ROMFIX foundation system provides load-bearing capacity on soft ground and prevents lateral movement of the foundation material, creating a stable road on a soft subgrade.
