Product information
The ROMFIX drainage bedding mortar silo is the professional solution for large projects where consistent quality is essential. The silo automatically dispenses the correct proportions of ROMFIX crushed stone aggregate, binder and trass powder, ensuring that every batch is uniform and of high quality. It is ideal for driveways, squares, patios and public spaces. For concrete paving units, choose drainage bedding mortar without trass powder. For porcelain or natural stone paving, choose drainage bedding mortar with trass powder.

Application
Step-by-step guide
- Before use, check that the silo is stable and completely vertical. The ground must be level and have sufficient bearing capacity. On unpaved or inadequately compacted ground, provide a stable platform beneath the silo, for example using precast concrete slabs, steel road plates or equivalent materials. A minimum area of 2.50 × 2.50 metres is required. Please note: check the silo’s alignment regularly during use, especially after heavy rain, thawing or other conditions that could cause the ground to settle.
- Connect the silo to the required three-phase power supply (380 volts – 32 amps). Before switching on the equipment, check that the power cable and connections are correct and undamaged.
- The silo adds the required mixing water to the dry materials during mixing. Connect the water supply for this purpose. You will need:
- a ¾-inch water hose;
- fitted with a GEKA coupling;
- a sufficient and constant water supply.
- Open the control cabinet and check the equipment before starting. Always consult the instructions on the inside of the control cabinet door. These contain the silo’s specific operating instructions. For initial commissioning, a ROMFIX employee can be present, if needed or agreed, to explain how the equipment works.
- Once power and water are connected correctly, start the mixing equipment in accordance with the instructions in the control cabinet. The silo has separate compartments for the crushed stone aggregate and binder. During mixing, these are automatically dispensed in the correct proportions. The ROMFIX drainage bedding mortar silo mixes 1 part binder with 4 parts crushed stone aggregate to produce earth-moist drainage bedding mortar. Let the equipment run briefly so that the mixer fills completely and produces a uniform mix.
- Check the first drainage bedding mortar discharged from the mixer. The mortar must have a uniform, earth-moist consistency. If it is too dry or too wet, first check the water supply and consult the settings and instructions in the control cabinet before continuing.
- Once the mortar has the correct consistency, it can be placed immediately. ROMFIX drainage bedding mortar has a working time of approximately 2 hours, depending on its composition and the ambient temperature. Do not mix more material than can be placed within that period.
- If no drainage bedding mortar is required for an extended period, do not leave material standing in the mixer unnecessarily. After the final batch, empty the mixer in accordance with the instructions on the inside of the control cabinet. This prevents mortar from hardening inside the equipment.
- Thoroughly clean the mixing trough and forced-action mixer at the end of every working day and before the silo is exchanged. ROMFIX recommends spraying the mixing trough and forced-action mixer beforehand, if required, with formwork release oil. This makes it easier to remove residual mortar later.
- The silo is configured so that the aggregate compartment empties before the binder compartment. Stop production in good time and order a replacement silo before it is needed. The silo must remain accessible to the lorry for exchange. Keep at least 20 metres of clear space in front of the silo, with no containers, scaffolding or other obstacles.
