Product information
ROMFIX Hechtmiddel is a trass cement-based bonding slurry that creates an exceptionally strong bond between the paving and ROMFIX drainage bedding mortar. Coating the entire underside of paving slabs, natural stone or pavers with this slurry creates a single, stable construction with the bedding layer. This prevents movement, loose paving and settlement, even under heavy traffic loads.
The bonding slurry is easy to apply with a ROMFIX block brush or notched trowel and is suitable for almost all paving types. It is an essential component of a durable, stable and water-permeable paving construction.
Application
Application instructions
- Cracking caused by weather conditions, temperature changes and traffic loads cannot be ruled out in bonded paving and tiles.
- A non-permeable sub-base can lead to damage if moisture penetrates.
- When laying tiles, we recommend using a notched trowel. The adhesive ridge height depends on the tile size: the larger the tile, the higher the ridge. For this application, reduce the water quantity to approximately 6.2 litres per 20 kg to obtain a firmer consistency and improve application. Apply a thin scratch coat first, then form the adhesive ridges.
- During installation, always tap the paving unit or tile into the drainage bedding mortar by hand to ensure a good bond between the paving and mortar.
- Install movement joints in accordance with standard requirements, where applicable.
- Where the sub-base is non-permeable, provide an adequate fall and drainage.
- Roughen the underside and sides of sawn paving units.
- Do not add any more water to the bonding slurry after the second mixing stage; only continue mixing.
Step-by-step guide
- Measure out sufficient clean water (6.2 to 6.8 litres), depending on the application, and add it to 20 kg of ROMFIX Hechtmiddel.
- Mix thoroughly for at least 3 minutes. Allow the bonding slurry to stand for 1 minute, then mix again for 2 minutes. Always use the entire contents.
- When bonding tiles, use a notched trowel or trowel to coat the entire back of the tile with a bonding layer. The required layer thickness depends on the tile’s flatness and surface area. Ensure sufficient adhesion between the tile and the drainage bedding mortar.
- Lay the tile carefully, ensuring that the surface coated with bonding slurry makes full contact with the drainage bedding mortar. Remove any contamination from the paving immediately with clean water.
- For other paving products, use a brush to apply a generous coat of bonding slurry to the underside of each unit. Also coat the sides up to a maximum of 3 cm below the top surface of the paving unit.
- Lay the paving. Clean any contaminated paving material immediately with water.
